Form follows function. Or is it the other way around?... My architectural blog is a method of accountability for my uni course at UNSW. If you have a few minutes, have a quick peek and see what I get up to in class. :) enjoy.

My SketchUp Shots
Outer Shell
Stairs
These are my shots and sections of my first set of stairs.
This view is shown with the walls being transparent, to show that the stairs are cantilevered and go into the wall to support them. It may not be very easy to see, but the stairs are actually quite complex in terms of cantilevered stairs and its support being entirely from the left hand wall.
These are my second set of stairs. They are very intricate, having three different layers within the steps. They were alot of fun to make and I enjoy looking at them, as they are very unconventional.
Artworks
Textures
Casa Fez - Portugal
It shows the tubular/tunnel like main structure which inhabitants occupy. The subdued and hidden lighting protruding from small gaps or 'gills' in the front and side of the house are an interesting element of the house, and I tried to portray this in my own building.

These were the main textures I selected to become part of my model.

Video-Lee-Chin Crystal
The museum reflects the concept of my buiilding to a certain degree. It resembles the jagged, disturbed edges with glass panels much like my gallery.
NOTE: I tried to upload this one several times, but kept running into issues, so I had to embed the original video .
Video- Unconventional Staircase
A video showing the unconventional set of stairs. It serves also as an optical illusion, but still manages to provide easy access/mobility through the whole set of the stairs.

Interesting Section Sketch
Interesting Section Sketch
Some random section sketches I did.
Left Page; Loudspeaker, train track rail, coffee mug
Right Page; Abstract section
I think its hard to see the sketch on the right but I find it very interesting and cool to look at. It took me quite a while actually, because it was difficult to cross-etch the top layer. I need to improve my cross-etching as well as developing other methods to show different layers and textures.

Artist-Section Sketches
I like the top right sketch. It combines Disturbed above the datum and Earth below it. The contrast between the materials and textures develop a great concept and grasp on sections and the datum. Also in my favourites are the bottom right one, which has Introvert above the datum and Nurturing below. The combination seems to create a factory/industry-looking section.
A brief sketch on the train sectioning a seat on the platform.
Thoughts
I found this exercise in the studio to be quite challenging at first. It is hard to envisage a word as a physical object/shape. On top of that, processing this in your mind to make a section makes a challenging exercise. After a few sketches I managed to produce a few satisfactory sections which use the datum as either a grounds for contrast or similarity between the two chosen words. Next step is to develop these into 3D models using Google SketchUp.
